10 ways to save money on the market

I don’t know if it happens to you, but if I don’t focus when I go shopping for groceries, or anything else at the market, I end up buying a lot of things that I actually don’t need. How to use the time right? What’s the formula to save money?

When I was little I remember going with my mom to the market, and her list of everything she wanted to buy. The funny thing is that she still makes her lists. I’m more disorganized and buy compulsively, so these tips are for you and me.

  1. Split the money: Divide your budget for market shopping into 4 equal parts per month (1 part per week). Try not to go over your weekly budget or lend money from the following week. This way you’ll moderate your monthly spend.
  2. Coupons = Discount: Search ads in the newspapers for offers and coupons. Take advantage of coupons and deals, but make sure that your family will use the things that are “on sale”. If these are things you won’t use, then it is not a saving.
  3. Plan ahead: Plan ahead foods that you’ll cook in the coming days. Are there some products on sale during the week you will use? Check if you have space in the kitchen to store products.
  4. Everything is a matter of routine: Make the most of your shopping once a week. You save time and will not spend money on “extras”.
  5. Make a list and follow it: Don’t be tempted to buy things you don’t plan on getting, unless you find a substitute product in your list, for a lower price.
  6. Go shopping alone: No friends, that way you won’t be tempted to buy something that your friends would buy. If possible don’t bring the children with you.
  7. Go when you’re not hungry: I think this explains for itself. Goodbye craving shopping!
  8. Compare brands: Look at the cost and quantity. Usually the products with the same store brand is cheaper, but not always.
  9. Compare different stores: If you get a chance check prices in different stores. If you find a store that usually has the cheapest products, continue shopping in the store.
  10. Compare the products presentation: Buy the cheaper product, if it’s for the same purpose. Don’t just look at the how to presentation looks like,
