5 TIPS TO LOWER CHOLESTEROL

What is cholesterol?

Is a fatty substance normally produced by the liver, which is involved in the formation ofcell walls and also in the production of other compounds such as certain hormones and bile salts. Foods of animal origin are an external source of cholesterol (eggs, meat, dairy)

How many types of cholesterol exist?

Blood cholesterol is carried mainly in two forms:

  • LDL (bad cholesterol) going into the arteries which can be deposited
  • HDL (good) to remove cholesterol from tissues to the liver for disposal.

Why does your cholesterol raise ?

  1. Increased production (genetic defects)
  2. Altered transport
  3. Decrease in its elimination
  4. Increased intake of high fat foods
  5. Associated diseases (diabetes. hypothyroidism, etc.).
  6. Inappropriate situations (stress. sedentary lifestyle)

Advices:

  1. Add half teaspoon of cinnamon to the coffee before putting the fire. A Pakistani studyfound that 6 g of cinnamon per day (about half a tablespoon) reduced about 30% LDLcholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes.
  2. Use olive oil. One study found that people who ate about two tablespoons of olive oildaily for just a week had lower levels of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidantsin the blood.
  3. Use olive oil. One study found that people who ate about two tablespoons of olive oildaily for just a week had lower levels of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidantsin the blood.
  4. Start with soup. Studies indicate that those who begin meals with soup end up takingfewer calories for the day without feeling hungrier.
  5. Make six or more small meals a day. A study of British adults found that people who eat at least six times a day have lower cholesterol than those who make two meals a day, even though the first take in more calories and fat.
  6. Eating cheese. According to a study at the Faculty of Medicine, Wake Forest Universityin Winston-Salem, North Carolina, women who take a daily serving of cheese havehigher levels of HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL (bad cholesterol) than those whoeat less cheese.

7 Truths About Salt

Excessive consumption of salt creates serious health problems. People do not believe this until the doctor gives the list of complications and then is that one way or another, try to avoid salt. In my house I don’t use it but if you eat on the street it’s almost inevitable. Here are some of the consequences of consuming it without moderation.

  1. It forces the heart, liver and kidneys to work harder, creating problems of hypertension, heart conditions, liver and kidney disease.
  2. Consume in excess raises blood pressure.
  3. Blood volume increases if there is excess sodium in the body.
  4. Promotes water imbalance, causes acid-base mismatch (acidity or pH of the cells), promotes atherosclerosis and water retention of the fat tissue (cellulite).
  5. Promotes weight gain, as it causes fluid retention.
  6. When the sodium accumulates in excess  in the body, fluid also accumulates in the intercellular space, so that the tissues of the feet and ankles swell.
  7. When you use too much salt your body is asking for more. The taste for simple food is lost.
