Home Remedies For Headaches

The day starts with screaming kids, continues slowly onward with stop ‘n’ go traffic, and ends on a sour note with an angry boss. By this point, you are ready to chop your head off in order to relieve the pounding pain.

Well, right before you do that, you may want to try these great home and natural remedies for headaches, I know they’re a true pain, but I sure this will help:

Brew chamomile tea.

Chamomile tea has compounds that help ease pain and relax you. Brew up a cup using one chamomile tea bag to a cup of just-boiled water. Allow to steep, covered, for 10 minutes. Sweeten with honey, if desired. Take a few minutes to sip the hot tea slowly while sitting in a quiet spot.

Hot water

If snow is falling and the last thing you want on your head is an ice pack, turn to heat for soothing relief. Dip a washcloth into hot but not scalding water. Squeeze out and apply over your eyes or on the pain site. Leave the compress on for 30 minutes, rewarming as necessary.

Try the caffeine cure

Have a cup of strong coffee. Caffeine reduces blood-vessel swelling, and thus can help relieve a headache. This is why caffeine is an ingredient in some extra-strength painkillers like Excedrin.

However, if you are already a heavy coffee drinker, skip this. Caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches, creating a vicious cycle.

If you’re having too many headaches too often, I strongly recommend to keep a diary as a record of it. Check with a doctor as it may be a sign of something else.
