Going green has several advantages and saving money is one of them and one of the motivations why people has decided for a green lifestyle! Today I share some facts of the green lifestyle vs no green lifestyle. Save greenbacks by going green!

Green lifestyle

In Babyhood (from 0 to 18 Months)

  • Diapers clothing + reusable towels = $336
  • Breastfeeding the baby – special clothes, ointments = $195
  • Entertaining – Appropriate objects to bite, a couple of “keys”, wooden blocks and a PCB free pacifier = $69

Typical lifestyle

Green lifestyle

In Childhood (from 3 to 18 years)

  • Transport to school – walking or taking the school bus = Free.
  • Playing outside – in a public park or in a garden = Free
  • Cost of organic food for school = $7581 (for 12 years of lunch)
  • In 2008/2009 the average price for lunch at school was $3.5
  • Total amount for a green childhood = $7581

Typical lifestyle

In Childhood (from 3 to 18 years)

  • Transport to school – Driving a minivan = $9224 (Gas for 12 years of school)
  • Cost for watching TV = $1421 (for more than 15 years)
  • Cost for lunch – A turkey sandwich with cheese and carton of juice = $5400 (for 12 years of lunch)
  • An average child between 6 – 11 years old spends 38 hours a week watching TV.
  • Total amount for a typical childhood = $16045

In addition to this there are other expenses that need to be taken into consideration when reaching university and adulthood.

  • For example, if the first car is a 2003 hybrid Sedan with 80,000 miles it could cost $10,081, on the other hand a similar car that is not eco friendly costs $9,500. Of course, the cost and the amount of fuel used by a hybrid car is way much less than a regular car.
  • A regular house a Fort Worth, TX + $30,000 for a solar panel system = $145,000 (You don’t pay electricity, that’s why you have the panels)
  • While a regular traditional house in the same area cost around $156,160 including the services you need to pay for the next 20 years.
  • Going camping for a weekend, including a tent for 4 people, 4 sleeping bags, and paying the park’s fee = $178 each trip for  20 years.
  • A trip of 2 days to a theme park, including the entering fee for 4 people, and the hotel for 2 nights = $850 each trip for 20 years.
  • Living green is better even at middle and long term, it is not about solving everything right away, but to understand that with time we can generate a greater positive impact.
