LEER EN ESPAÑOL

A current concern is the care of our environment and preserving natural resources. Particularly for some years now, people, businesses and all types of institutions have begun to understand the importance of safeguarding our planet, since it is the place where we live and we all worry about our quality of life.

On the other hand, understanding how to take care of the resources offered by our planet, help us reducing the economic outlay and saving money, not only in society as a whole but also in the family and personal life.

A concept that has become very popular is recycling. However, this term has become a generic word used to designate a series of actions involving environmental benefit. For this reason is that, and thanks to the spread that the international organization Greenpeace has given, the Rule of three ” Rs “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle has become more fully to understand and implement care planet.

These three actions fall under the basic principles of environmental care. Because is not only enough to save or separating waste for recycling, it is necessary to combine the three to make a difference really noticeable.

Reduce

The first action – Reduce – refers specifically to saving resources. It means that when we reduce the indiscriminate use of electricity, gas, fossil fuels, water, paper, among others, we reduce the rate of pollutants that go to the atmosphere, prevent excessive deforestation and generally contribute to avoid overexploitation of land resources. Also diminish the volume of solid waste that much damage the soil, water and air.

Also, this step is crucial to household finances and workplace. As we have seen in other articles of this section, by consuming less electricity (implementing simple everyday actions) we can save a good percentage of the monthly cost when paying the electricity bill, to reduce water consumption we prevent the future growth of their prices, to use gas sparingly (following some simple recommendations) ended up paying less for this service without affecting our lifestyle.

Moreover, you can also save by reducing the consumption of certain everyday products such as detergents and bath soaps, paper towels, stationery, among others.

If we do an exercise of reflection and observation, each of us can tell what aspects of your home and workplace can implement the first ” R “: Reduce, in order to care for the planet and your pocket.

Re-use

The second action – Reuse -is also vital for both the planet and for our households.

Reuse means using the same thing as often as possible, or give different uses for the same product, in order to avoid waste.

Reuse requires a good degree of ingenuity on the part of individuals, so it can become a fun activity, to give variety to our daily lives.

One of the most common forms of reuse is to keep the paper that have been used to print something that is no longer needed, then reuse writing notes or documents that do not require formal presentation. This simple action saves money on paper costs and prevents excessive deforestation.

Other everyday examples of reuse are: saving the gift wrap in good condition for future use; take containers and glass containers and plastic to store and organize items in the house, donate clothing and toys (in good condition) of our children to their younger siblings or charitable organizations; keep school supplies for one year for the next cycle, making compost for house plants from organic waste, and so on.

recycle

Finally, the third action – Recycle -is to manufacture a new product from a waste material. Usually, this process is carried out in the industry. Few people can recycle products at home. However, we can all participate in recycling, classify daily waste into categories to facilitate their identification to be taken to sites specialized in recycling.

We can also locate recycling centers to carry ourselves  the items to be recycled. In such places recyclable materials are purchased such as paper  (cardboard, newspaper, flyers), metal (copper, iron, aluminum), glass (bottles, broken glass), plastic (bottles, boxes, bottles), and so on. There we will get paid a certain amount of money (depending on volume and type of material), and this can be useful for other household expenses.

Generally, the glass material is a better paid, since its recycling process is direct, ie simply melted by heat and is molded again, while other materials need to be purified and processed before they can be melted and reprocessed.
