My approach to life and beauty is about constant evolution. Caroline Myss, a favorite teacher of mine, is known for saying “I don’t strive for perfection, I strive for constant practice.” Whether my art is expressed through makeup, yoga, or energy healing, this is what I appreciate most about being an artist.
It’s such a joy to work in a field where you can look back and see how you have grown artistically and spiritually through practice.
I realize that for some people, the connection between makeup and spirituality might not be obvious, but I have always experienced a strong connection there.
One of the things I have found very difficult about working in the beauty industry is that so many people seem to forget the point – which is to help people heal, and feel better about themselves. It’s difficult to work in retail and maintain that healing attitude.
Through my yoga practice and freelance career as a wedding makeup artist, I have been able to hold onto that focus, and that has really enriched my work.
The more peaceful and connected I feel, the more I can connect with my clients. My yoga practice eventually led me to the healing arts, which I now incorporate into my work. I offer Reiki, IET, and Broad Spectrum Energy Healing to deepen the healing experience and help my clients look and feel their best – inside and out.
Makeup is just one way I can connect with people, and it’s one of the mediums I use to heal. I don’t use it as a way to cover up what doesn’t feel good inside. Instead, I teach it as a ritual of self-love and care.
It’s so important to be able to look in the mirror and honestly feel love for oneself. Beyond that, it’s just fun and color that we can use to express how we feel from day-to-day. Are you a whimsical pink today, or a pensive nude?
I’m just changing the world, one make over at a time!
