Strokes can happen to anyone at any age. Among Hispanic adults, 2.8% of men and 2.0% of women have had a stroke. WOW!

World Stroke Day is on October the 29th and The American Heart Association created a video.

A healthy lifestyle is key

  1. Choosing healthy meal and snack options can help you prevent a stroke.
  2. Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  3. Foods low in saturated fats and trans fat, that are also high in fiber can help prevent high cholesterol.
  4. Limiting salt (sodium) in your diet can also lower your blood pressure.

Lose weight and exercise more!

Your lifestyle is not only your best defense against heart disease and strokes, it’s also your responsibility.

High blood pressure, cigarette smoking, and high blood cholesterol are still major contributors to the national epidemic of cardiovascular disease.

Strokes are treatable. Recognize the signs. The faster you are treated, the more likely you are to recover.

Some facts:

  • Someone has a stroke every 2 seconds.
  • 1 in 6 people will have a stroke in their lifetime.
  • Strokes are largely treatable.
