Shopping for food can be a playground for some, and misery for others. Being in the supermarket opens the mind of all we want to buy, whether is it or not necessary. Has it ever happened to you that you end up buying more things than you had on the list?
That’s why today I want to help with that list of eight essential food in your vegan pantry, which are perfect to prepare simple and nutritious vegan dishes.
8 essential foods in your vegan pantry
1. Legumes
They’re easily available and relatively inexpensive. Legumes are part of vegan cuisine for being a good source of protein, fiber, iron and vitamins.
They can be: chickpeas, lentils, beans, beans, green beans, soybeans, peas, peanuts, etc. All vegan pantry needs this.
2. Cereals
They are of all kinds, are inexpensive and allow us to prepare all kinds of dishes. They are generally an excellent source of fiber, carbohydrates, vitamins and are much better if they are comprehensive.
Include: rice, pasta, oats, wheat, buckwheat, millet, rye, barley and corn. Quinoa can come in here as a pseudocereal.
3. Vegetables
There are many varieties of vegetables, and all are an excellent source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. These are foods that we consume daily.
Such as tomatoes, peppers, onions, leeks, potatoes, eggplant, zucchini, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, spinach, among others. Pantry has a good vegan vegetables.
4. Dried fruits
This is essential in a vegan pantry, they are versatile and have many vitamins, minarales and omega-3 fatty acids.
You can buy: walnuts, pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts, pine nuts, cashews, macadamias, peanuts and chestnuts.
5. Seeds
Although legumes and nuts are seeds, this section refers to the smallest seeds that we use less of it. These seeds are part of the essential foods because if we add to our vegan meals are providing nutrients, colors and flavors.
Such as: line seed, sesame, alfalfa, mustard, nigella, hemp, poppy and chia.
6. Vegetable oils and fats
With having one is enough. The most common in a vegan pantry is olive oil. Our meals should be healthy fats and that is why the addition of vegetable oils to our diet is ideal.
You can buy these oils: olive, sunflower, sesame, walnut, peanut, soybean, canola, coconut, almonds …
7. Spices
Spices are the real protagonists in our food for its flavors, aromas and colors they bring. Depending on the spice we can get different benefits.
Some species such as paprika, thyme, oregano, pepper, cumin, bay leaf, rosemary, basil, turmeric and ginger.
8. Fruits
Fresh fruits should always be in our house taking every season to save money. They generally have many vitamins, minerals and fiber.
These are some of my recommendations: banana, apple, pear, strawberry, peach, watermelon, plum, avocado, kiwi, orange and lemon. I love fruit, in my pantry vegan I always have them!
