Today, March 20th is the International Day of Happiness. On this day we recognise the importance of this sentiment in the lives of every person in the world.
But… what is happiness?
How do I know I am a happy person?
Well, according to the United Nations, the three main goals that lead to the well-being of the human race are:
- Ending poverty
- Reducing inequality
- Protecting our planet
I personally think that sums it all up pretty well, but subjectively, what does it mean?
Here are some of my favorite quotes, the ones that motivate me each day and make me feel grateful and empowered:
Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort.
-Roosevelt
Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
-Mahatma Gandhi
All in all, being happy is a choice we make everyday and every moment. Unfortunately there are some bad habits that can bring us down but I refuse to let them guide me.
Remember:
- Learn to breath and relax
- Stop comparing yourself with others
- Live in the now: don´t worry about the past or the future
- Don’t let negative thoughts invade your mind
- Smile and be thankful
If you set your mind on the right track you can achieve great things no matter the situation.
It´s okay to be moody sometimes (we´re only human after all! ) but don’t ever let the negativity consume you.
